  • SCARBOROUGH lifeboat was launched to the aid of a fishing vessel which was taking on water five and a half miles east of the town. A spokesman for coastguards said the 25ft Tamara was taking on enough water to make the boat list after its engines failed yesterday. He said:
  • Beneteau are once again looking to diversify their brand with the arrival of the new Barracuda range. The first boat is 28ft 8in (8.78m) in length but the press release hints at plans to expand the range in the future. The looks are very much of the Botnia Targa and Paragon ilk but Beneteau promise that the tough facade is going to be more than matched by an excellent hull.
  • France is venue for 2013 Laser SB3 World Championships in September. Exciting time for the Laser SB3 class in France as ownership of boats and racing activity is on the increase. Edward Russo, newly appointed President of the Laser SB3 World Council, has been the driving force re-igniting the Laser SB3 Class in France, and was delighted that the 2013 World Championships will take place in France where the potential for growth of the class is significant.
  • A Plymouth-based yacht company hopes to build a £35m factory at Devonport Dockyard, which could create or secure 1,000 jobs, the company has said. Princess Yachts International has applied for between £4-5m of government funding to build the factory. The company said it hoped to open the building to meet the growing global demand for yachts. If commissioned, the factory was expected to open before the end of 2012, the firm said.
  • Norwegian National TV is broadcasting a 134-hour boat ride through the Arctic in an attempt to promote the country’s culture. The epic trip from Bergen in the south to Kirkenes in the far north is being livecast on the web and filmed by Norway’s NRK. The journey by sea is run by Hurtigruten, the express boat line between the south and north of the country that covers a distance of nearly 3000km — comparable to the distance between Oslo and Tunisia.
